DC and Marvel Movies Releasing in 2022

Marvel and DC fans must be marking their calendars with these upcoming movie release dates. This year, superhero movie fans will be pleased with the number of movies finally making their way to the big screen. There are a total of 11 possible DC and Marvel movies screening in the year 2022, and fans will get to see their favorite characters on the screen once again, or for the first time. Here is a list of the long-awaited movies coming out this year:

1. “The Batman”
Release Date: March 4, 2022

DC fans know that there have been multiple versions of the Batman and 2022 brings a new actor in the role of the dark knight. “The Batman” will star Robert Pattinson as the title character along with Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Colin Farrell, Jeffery Wright, Andy Serkis, and many more. The movie will follow Batman as he takes on villains, such as the Riddler and Penguin, with an appearance from Catwoman. The movie has already been delayed twice, and as of right now, the release date stays at March 4th of this year. The movie will be released in theaters before streaming on HBO Max, on April 19th, 45 days after its initial theater release.

 

2. “Morbius”
Release Date: April 1, 2022

“Morbius” will finally be making its way to the big screen after being delayed once in the past. It was set to release Jan. 28 but was pushed back because of the surge in COVID-19 cases. “Morbius,” a Sony movie, will star Jared Leto as Morbius the Living Vampire, and feature Adria Arjona, Matt Smith, Tyrese Gibson, and many more. Dr. Michael Morbius, born with a rare blood disease, seeks out a cure only to find that the cure is more of a curse. The movie will also bring back a character from the MCU, Vulture from “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” Micheal Keaton will be returning to play Adrian Toomes, who fans will remember as the main villain of the first Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man movie.

 

3. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Release date: May 6, 2022

Dr. Strange returns in the movie’s sequel “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” The movie will star Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Stephen Strange, and bring back Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The sequel to the first Doctor Strange movie will also include another avenger, Wanda Maximoff (also known as the Scarlet Witch) played by Elizabeth Olsen. The movie most likely takes place after the events of “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” From the trailer it seems as though Doctor Strange will have to deal with another version of himself and will seek out help from Wanda Maximoff. The movie will also introduce another character from the comics, America Chavez, otherwise known as Miss America, played by Xochitl Gomez.

 

4. “DC League of Super-Pets”
Release Date: May 20, 2022

An animated DC film is making its way to theaters. It’s called “DC League of Super-Pets” and is directed by Jared Stern and Sam Levine, the co-writers of “Wreck-It Ralph,” and is based on the 1960s comic, “Legion of Super-Pets.” The film, according to IMDb, will focus on Krypto, the super-powered dog and best friend to Superman. Superman and Krypto have always been close, and even have the same powers, but Krypto must learn how to master his own abilities when Superman is captured. The movie will star Dwayne Johnson as Krypto the SuperDog, Kevin Hart as Ace, Marc Maron as Lex Luther, John Krasinski as Superman, and many more.

 

5. “Thor: Love and Thunder”
Release Date: July 8, 2022

Thor will be the first MCU character to get a fourth solo movie with “Thor: Love and Thunder.” Chris Hemsworth is back as the God of Thunder, along with Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie. Natalie Portman is reprising her role as the astrophysicist, Jane Foster. Two new characters include Zeus (Russell Crowe) and Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who is set to be the movie’s main villain. Similar to many other movies, the release date was delayed by a few months. The movie was supposed to hit theaters in May 2022 but is now scheduled for a release in July.

 

6. “Black Adam”
Release Date: July 29, 2022

“Black Adam” is based on the DC comic character of the same name and will finally be released this year. The movie, according to Screen Rant, has been in development since 2014. The movie will star Dwayne Johnson as the anti-villain and will include Pierce Brosnan, Aldis Hodge, Sarah Shahi, and Noah Centineo, along with many others. Black Adam is the arch-nemesis of superhero Captain Marvel, otherwise known as Shazam. “Shazam” was released as its own film in 2019 and will be getting its own sequel in 2023. Shazam will most likely not be making an appearance in the Black Adam film releasing this year.

 

7. “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One)”
Release Date: Oct. 7, 2022

The sequel to the first movie, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” is on its way to the big screen after the first movie hit theaters four years prior. The animated Sony Spider-Man film was received well by critics when it first released, and even went on to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, so it came as no surprise when a sequel was announced. The movie will bring back the voices that are Shameik Moore (Miles Morales), Jake Johnson (Peter B. Parker), and Hailee Steinfeld (Gwen Stacy). According to IMDb, actors Oscar Isaac and Issa Rae will also provide their voices for the movie. The movie, by default of the title, will be released in two parts. The first part will be released in October this year and the second part will most likely be released the following year but is still not confirmed.

 

8. “The Flash”
Release Date: Nov. 4, 2022

The Flash will be getting a solo movie after being originally set for a 2018 release. According to Screen Rant, the movie has gone through multiple directors, and “due to creative differences, Andy Muschietti was tapped to the helm.” Ezra Miller, who previously played the character in “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League,” will still star as the Scarlet Speedster. “The Flash” will be based on the DC comic crossover, “Flash Point,” a storyline where Barry rewrites the timeline in an attempt to save his mother. Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton are both set to reprise their roles as Batman.

 

9. “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”
Release Date: Nov. 11, 2022

The first Black Panther movie was a huge success after its 2018 release, being the fifth MCU movie to cross the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office. After four years, Marvel will finally be releasing the sequel to “Black Panther.” The movie will focus on the other characters that live in Wakanda and will bring back actors Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong’o, Martin Freeman, and multiple others from the first film. Unfortunately, Chadwick Boseman, who played the protector of Wakanda, T’Challa (Black Panther) passed away in 2020. The film was supposed to release in July but was pushed back until November, taking the spot of the second Captain Marvel film.

 

10. “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”
Release Date: Dec. 16, 2022

The final confirmed superhero movie releasing this year is “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.” It was no surprise when the sequel was announced two months after the first movie released in 2018. Jason Momoa will continue to play Aquaman in the second movie and it will also bring back Patrick Wilson as the Ocean Master (not as the film’s main villain) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta. Jason Momoa confirmed that the plot of the movie was set and that he himself provided some ideas for the upcoming movie.

Possible 2022 Release: “Batgirl”

“Batgirl” is set to come out this year, but no release date has been provided. Almost no information about this movie has been released, besides the fact that the movie will star Leslie Grace as Batgirl and Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne.
