Everything I Watched in October: 31 Movies in 31 Days
In 2021 I decided to do something fun in October. I had wanted to do this the previous year but wasn’t able to. I thought that watching 31 movies for the month of October would be a fun challenge. I was able to complete the challenge last year and decided to do it again in 2022. So here is the list of all the movies I watched in October 2022. For the record, I am not an official movie reviewer and pretty much think that everything is good, so take any raving with a grain of salt.
Coraline- I had to start off with a classic. I usually watch Coraline every year because I just love this movie. Everything about it is great, especially the stop motion. I would recommend it to anyone who hasn’t seen it yet.
Clue (1985)- This is a movie that I have wanted to watch for a while but never got around to. I’m so glad that I finally watched it because I thought that it was incredible. It’s based on the Clue board game and one aspect of the movie that I love is how it had a variety of endings. The film’s initial release featured various different endings, with one of three possibilities sent to movie theaters at the time. I think that’s such a cool idea and it makes me like the movie even more.
Mean Girls- Of course, I had to watch Mean Girls on October 3. This movie is the outlier on this list but I think it still works for October. This is another movie that I consider a modern classic and have much love for.
Goosebumps- I watched this movie because my younger sister really wanted to watch it. I remember watching it when I was younger and loving it so I was excited to watch it again. The writing was a bit cringy but I loved it anyway. Mainly, because Jack Black was in it and he is hilarious.
The Princess and the Frog- Let me just say – this has to be the best Disney princess movie. I literally love everything about it. The music, the visuals, the characters, everything. Amazing. Another movie that I will recommend to literally anyone.
American Psycho- This is the first scary movie that I watched for the month. This movie actually stressed me out. Christian Bale’s acting as Patrick was so unsettling and scary.
Ready or Not- Another movie that I think is just amazing. It’s probably one of my favorite horror comedies mainly because I think the concept is really interesting. I also think that Samara Weaving has one of the best horror movie screams ever. Just watch the movie and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
Freaky- I wanted to watch this movie because I thought the concept was really interesting. It’s a Freaky Friday-type of movie between a serial killer and a teenage girl. I think what I liked the most was Vince Vaughn acting like a teenage girl which was hilarious.
Scooby-Doo- There’s honestly not much to say about this movie. It’s a fun classic that’s a great watch all year round, and I loved it.
Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed- I hadn’t watched this movie before so I was quite excited. I personally didn’t like it as much as the first one but it was still a fun watch.
The Addams Family (1991)- I of course had to watch this movie in honor of the Wednesday series that’s coming to Netflix. I think out of all the different Addams family variations, this cast is my favorite.
Addams Family Values- I think I may like this one more than the first. My favorite thing about the movie was the inclusion of the character Debbie. She’s so fun and a great addition to all the amazing characters they already had.
The Book of Life- Another movie that I loved when I was younger. With the release anniversary on October 17, I thought it would be a good idea to rewatch it. I think my favorite things about the movie are the songs and just how visually beautiful everything is.
The Craft (1996)- This is another movie I watched for the first time. It follows teenage newcomer Sarah who falls in with a trio of outcast teenage girls who practice witchcraft, and they all soon conjure up various spells and curses against those who anger them.
The Curse of Bridge Hollow- I honestly didn’t have high expectations for this movie and I was pleasantly surprised. Sure, some parts were cheesy and predictable, but I thought it was a fun and chill movie.
Bodies Bodies Bodies- I was a bit on the fence with watching this movie, mainly because I had no idea what it was about. It follows a group of 20-somethings that get stuck at a remote mansion during a hurricane when a party game goes very, very wrong. The game ends with a dead body on the ground and fake friends at every turn as they try to find the killer among them. I personally didn’t think this movie was anything special but I’m not going to lie I wasn’t expecting the ending.
Hotel Transylvania- I’m gonna be totally honest, I really like this movie. It follows Dracula, who operates a high-end resort away from the human world and goes into overprotective mode when a boy discovers the resort and falls for the count’s teenage daughter. I just think it’s so funny and a really good time. The second one is the best though, in my opinion.
Practical Magic- This is a fun movie about love, family, and making peace with one’s past and with who you are. It was a bit boring in some parts and there were a few continuity errors but I still had a good time watching it.
Hocus Pocus- This was my first time watching this movie and I thought it was so good. The Sanderson sisters were obviously the best part of the movie. They were so full of life and funny and they made the movie so enjoyable.
Hocus Pocus 2- First, let me say that I’m really sick of almost everything coming out recently as a remake or a sequel. I didn’t know what to expect from this movie because I didn’t watch any trailers or anything so I was going in pretty blind. It honestly wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, so that was good. My favorite part, again, had to be the Sanderson sisters. Without them, this movie wouldn’t be as worth it.
My Babysitter’s a Vampire- This is a movie that I unironically love. I watched it a few years ago when I wanted to watch the TV show (which is amazing) and I think it holds up really well. Again like a lot of the older movies on this list, the writing is a bit cringy at times, an example of that being Benny’s entire character, but it’s still a really fun movie.
X- I literally knew nothing about this movie when I watched it but I heard a lot of great reviews for it. In my opinion, it was the scariest movie on this list. I felt constantly uneasy watching this movie but it was amazing. I also really want to watch the sequel, Pearl, which I heard was really good.
Knives Out- Yet another movie that I just love so much. I really like mysteries and who-dun-its so that’s the main reason I like this movie. Tie in an amazing cast, and it’s just even more loveable.
Halloween (1978)- A lot of people had recommended this movie to me so I was excited to watch it for the first time. I honestly thought it would be scarier than it was but regardless, it was still really good. My favorite part of the movie was definitely the score, which I think is the best horror movie score.
Girl vs. Monster- I have so much nostalgia for this movie. I remember watching it when it came out and loving it. I hadn’t watched it in a few years and was excited for the rewatch. This is just another fun movie that I really enjoy. Also, it’s worth mentioning that the song “Had Me At Hello” which is sung in this film, deserves a Grammy.
I Know What You Did Last Summer- To be completely honest I mainly watched this movie for Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. Looking back on this movie I don’t really remember much of what happened. I feel like it had potential but I thought it was a bit boring.
Jennifer’s Body- It’s best to say that this movie was ahead of its time. It has such a good plot and the messaging behind it is really interesting. There are some lines in it that didn’t age too well, and that’s probably my only problem with this film.
Wendell & Wild- I had heard about this movie before it came out and I was really excited to see it. It’s a stop-motion horror comedy starring Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key. I feel like there aren’t a lot of stop-motion movies that come out today so I was really interested when I first heard of it. I think that the plot was really unique and the characters were easily very lovable.
Assassination Nation- This movie depicts a very dark subject surrounding 4 teenage girls and how social media can influence crowds. This is another movie where the message is really powerful. My only problem was it had a lot of gore and I’m pretty squeamish so I was stressed throughout the entirety of the movie.
Happy Death Day- I really enjoy supernatural movies like this and Freaky. This movie is about a college student who must relive the day of her murder over and over again, in a constant loop that will end only when she discovers her killer’s identity. I never really heard about any reviews for this movie but I thought it was amazing. The plot kept me guessing the whole time.
Beetlejuice- I know that this movie is very beloved which is why I chose to watch it. This was my first time watching it and I never realized that I didn’t know anything about it. For those who don’t know it’s about the spirits of a deceased couple that are harassed by an unbearable family that has moved into their home and hire a malicious spirit to drive the spirits out. It honestly wasn’t my favorite upon first watch but I just might need to watch it again.
