Red (Taylor’s Version) By: Taylor Swift, Album Review

Red was a success in commercials and radios. It debuted as the number one on the Billboard 200 and had 1.21 million copies sold in the first week’s sale. Taylor Swift re-recorded Red earlier back on Nov. 12, 2021, and just in 2 months, it sold up to 3.1 million copies. Lots of fans loved her mature voice throughout the years and showed her much love and support. Red is available on Spotify and Apple Music, as well as other music streaming services.

Swift’s album, Red, was a big hit when it was initially released. It received many awards, such as the Billboard Music Award for Top Billboard 200 Album, the American Music Award for Favorite Country Album, and the Billboard Music Award for Top Country Album. When it was released on Oct. 12, 2012, it received much love from fans. Swift had remade the album and released it on Nov. 12, 2021. Swift had re-recorded it because she didn’t own most of the songs in the album, as she didn’t own many of her songs at all due to an ordeal with Scooter Braun, which is deserving of a whole other article in its own right. She wanted to re-record all of her old albums so she could own the songs completely instead of simply publishing it with her name below it with no ownership.

Swift named the album Red because of its bold color. Swift had experienced heartbreak and red symbolized her emotions. After dating Jake Gyllenhaal for three months, they broke up their relationship because of the age gap. When breaking up, Swift was 21 and Gyllenhaal was 30. The color red symbolizes her heartbreak and emotions about the break-up and released the album in 2012. Swift had said on Good Morning America, “I wrote this song about the fact that some things are just hard to forget because the emotions involved with them were so intense, and to me intense emotion is red.” She was explaining her title of the album and why she chose it.

The most popular song in the album was the song, All Too Well. It received number 80 on the Billboard Hot 100 and 59 on the Canadian Hot 100. It also was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. It received over 41 million views on Youtube as of February 2022. From the re-recorded album, All Too Well sold 41,700 downloads worldwide and 131.3 million streams.

Swift also released a 10-minute short film of All Too Well along with the new recording. The short film was written and directed by Swift. It was about a young man and woman that fell in love, but problems in their relationship caused them to drift apart from each other. On YouTube, the short film has over 40.6 million views. All the fans were amazed by how talented Swift was and enjoyed it heavily, as evidenced by the view count.

In my opinion, I thought that the album itself was great and the songs were amazing. The fact that each song alluded to the story behind it made the album feel even more heart-warming. Her vocals and writing were spectacular, and I was surprised by how much her voice matured throughout the years.

The album Red is still getting lots of love and support from fans. Let’s stay tuned for what Swift has planned next!
