On Thursday, January 26, 2023, Harry Styles returned to Los Angeles to complete the remaining shows from his international Love on Tour. His reappearance in Los Angeles comes as no surprise after having to cancel and postpone all shows following November second of 2022 due to illness. The shows following the second of November were pushed to January of 2023. The January shows, similar to the ones in early November, were held at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, CA.

The show opened with the song, “Daydreaming,” and ended with “Kiwi,” the last song off of his first solo album Fine Line. Different from the November shows, however, was Styles’ wardrobe malfunction. While performing the song “Music for a Sushi Restaurant,” Styles flashed an audience of hundreds after sliding onto his knees mid-song.

Styles quickly apologized to the audience in his direct vicinity after his pants tore and continued the song, then apologized once more in a much more formal manner to the entire audience once the song had finished. Styles momentarily tied a pride flag, gifted from the crowd, around his waist to cover up the rip in his leather pants. The concert went well following the costume incident, as Styles continued to perform songs off of Fine Line, “Harry House,” and even “What Makes You Beautiful,” which is best known in association with One Direction, the boy band Styles was a part of before his solo career.

Most recently, Styles was seen at the 64th annual Grammy Awards show. Harry Styles was nominated for his latest album, Harry’s House, alongside Coldplay for Music of the Regions, Kendrick Lamar for Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers, Lizzo for Special, Bad Bunny for Un Verano Sin Ti, Beyonce for Renaissance, Mary J. Blige for Good Morning Gorgeous, ABBA for Journey and Adele for her album 30, all in the running for album of the year. Aside from being nominated for album of the year, Styles was also nominated for record of the year, song of the year, best pop solo performance, and best music video.

During the evening, the host, Trevor Noah, a South African comedian well known for his role as host of the Daily Show, called Styles a “sex symbol of the globe.” The comment is part of a larger issue surrounding the hypersexualization that Harry Styles has faced throughout his musical career, not to mention his open dislike of being referred to as a sex symbol in previous interviews.

At the end of the night, Trevor Noah revealed that Harry Styles had won album of the year. Harry Styles was met with both controversy and backlash from the crowd as well as the internet, rather than congratulations. In the crowd, remarks were heard saying that Harry Styles should not have won over Beyonce’s album, Renaissance.
