Note: This article includes updates on GALA sports events up until 10/21/22

At GALA, we are very lucky to have three CIF Fall Sports teams. Let’s take a look at what they’ve been up to so far!

GALA Tennis
Led by Coach Jared Morrison, Singles Captain Delia Mizrahi, and Doubles Captain Audrey Czerniewski, the GALA Tennis team started its season on August 15, 2022. Since then, the Varsity team has won 10 out of their total of 11 matches and are going to the playoffs!

When asked about her experience this year, team member Sydney Piller said, “Tennis this year has been lots of fun. I’ve made new friends, learned new skills, and we’ve all pushed each other to be the best players and teammates we can be.”

GALA Volleyball
Volleyball is a fairly new sport to GALA, but it has also been one of the most successful. In the 2021-22 year (the team’s first ever!) the Varsity team made it through playoffs and were crowned Division IV Champions!

For the 2022-23 year, Varsity Coach Katie Clark and Junior Varsity Coach Mary Eckel, led the GALA Volleyball teams into the new season on August 1, 2022. Since then, Varsity has played a total of 19 regular season games, with 15 wins and 4 losses! They kick off the playoff season ranked #2 in Division III (Varsity Volleyball Maxpreps).
Junior Varsity have played a total of 4 games so far this season, with 1 win and 3 losses (Junior Varsity Volleyball Maxpreps).

When asked about working with the team this year Coach Clark said, “I have loved getting to work with both the varsity and JV teams this year and am so proud of how much both groups have grown in terms of teamwork and skill. Our program has grown so much in the past two years and I can’t wait to see what they do in future seasons.”

GALA Cross Country
Coach Kelsey Mcfadden and the GALA Cross Country team started their season on August 15, 2022 (GALA Athletics). After a month and a half of training, the Varsity and Junior Varsity had their first meet on October 6, 2022! They have since ran in a total of three. Led by Varsity Captains Lily Feldman and Kana Decoste, and JV Captains, Emely Amador Menzie and Amy Lopez, the teams both placed first in their league at all of their meets so far!

When asked about her experience this year, Varsity team member Mae Davidson said, “This was my first year on the cross country team, and I’ve found it to be one of the best decisions I’ve made. It offered me a chance to make friends across grade levels and stay active.”
