Opinion | Who I’d Cast in The Hunger Games

Opinion | Who Id Cast in The Hunger Games

This article contains spoilers concerning The Hunger Games.

A popular movie and book franchise, The Hunger Games, was recently put on Netflix, where it’ll stay for a short period of time. The move has inspired interesting conversations regarding the franchise on social media with one such being who the ideal fancast would be for each character.

Effie Trinket: Eccentric, kind-hearted escort of the tributes from District 12

I would cast Janelle Monae as Effie, specifically, Janelle Monae from the 2019 Met Gala, themed “Camp.” When it comes to a red carpet outfit, and this one in specific, Janelle Monae always delivers the most eccentric and fun outfits.

Cinna: Katniss Everdeen’s stylist and closest capital companion during both the 74th Annual Games and the 3rd Quarter Quell

I would cast Law Roach, stylist to the stars. Notable icons in his portfolio include Zendaya, Megan Thee Stallion, and Bella Hadid. Law Roach would be able to take anyone from potato sacks to vintage Vivienne Westwood and not break a sweat, and I feel like that’s the perfect description of Cinna’s role in the Hunger Games.

President Snow: President of Panem

I would cast Dumbledore as President Snow for only one reason. Before you start sounding off, Dumbledore was a well-respected man in the wizarding community, but he and President Snow are both old, white, and sporting a spectacular beard. I rest my case.

Peeta Mellark: Main love interest to Katniss Everdeen and male tribute from District 12 in both the 74th Annual Games and the 3rd Quarter Quell

For Peeta, I had to go with Buddy from Cake Boss because Peeta comes from a family of bakers and is known for being able to do heavy lifting, which Buddy is also highly capable of.

Caesar Flickerman: Host of the Hunger Games

Now, I was slightly conflicted with this one. I was torn between Jimmy Fallon and Jeff Goldblum, who are both goofy television personalities. I had to choose Jimmy Fallon because we already know he has potential in talk show hosting.

Gale Hawthorn: Katniss’ best friend that is definitely in love with her

On the topic of YA novel best friends that are definitely in love with the main character, let’s talk about Jacob Blackfrom Twilight. Jacob Black is the textbook definition of a third wheel, which makes him perfect for Gale.

Haymitch Abernathy: Mentor for District 12 tributes

Thor, but more specifically Thor at the beginning of Avengers: Endgame when he is really distraught and at a loss for hope because everyone he loves has either died or left him. This perfectly describes the state that Haymitch is in during the first Hunger Games book/movie.

Seneca Crane: Head Game Maker in the 74th Annual games

I think Waluigi, being a sort of side villain in the Mario Bros. Universe, seems to fit the feel of Seneca Crane’s character; a mischievous fella that’s not exactly the main villain but definitely a bump in the road.
