Red Velvet is a South Korean girl group created by SM Entertainment They initially debuted on August 1st, 2014. Red Velvet consists of 5 members: Irene, Seulgi, Joy, Wendy, and Yeri.

To explain the group’s name, the “Red” explains their wild and youthful side, while “Velvet” represents the sophistication behind their fun concepts. Red Velvet was first formed in 2009 when Seulgi was cast as a trainee via S.M. Entertainment auditions. Irene and Yeri were later cast in the 2009 and 2011 auditions. In 2012, Wendy and Joy were cast in SM’s global auditions from Canada and Seoul. Wendy, Joy, Irene, and Seulgi debuted in 2014, and in 2015, Yeri was later added to the group.

Red Velvet’s initial debut song was “Happiness,” which included Seulgi, Wendy, Joy, and Irene, and their first official album was “The Red,” a studio album released on September 9th, 2015. Red Velvet has three studio albums, 14 extended plays, one reissue album, and 28 singles.

Red Velvet has 59 wins, including the Daesang Song Of The Year award, for their most famous song. Red Velvet’s most popular song is “Red Flavor,” played worldwide for its catchy melody. Each member of Red Velvet also has individual singles/albums.

Now for a quick introduction for each member of the group!

Seulgi: Seulgi’s position in Red Velvet is the Main Vocalist and Lead Vocalist. Seulgi’s role model is Beyonce, and she likes dark-colored clothing.

Joy: Joy has the positions of Vocalist and Lead Rapper. Joy has an EP titled “Hello” (one of my favorites). Joy’s role model is Ariana Grande, and she likes the number 31 because she likes ice cream (a reference to Baskin Robbins 31 flavors).

Wendy: Wendy is a Main Vocalist for Red Velvet. Wendy lives in Canada with her family and plays various instruments, such as the piano, flute, and guitar.

Irene: Irene assumes a lot of positions in Red Velvet. Irene is the Leader, Main Rapper, Main Dancer, Vocalist, Visual, and the Center.

Yeri: Yeri is a Vocalist, Sub Rapper, and Maknae (youngest member) of the group.
